Federation
Authentication-Only Modernization
Authentication-Only Modernization is the migration pattern where login is modernized but authorization and lifecycle governance remain largely untouched.
Definition
Authentication-Only Modernization occurs when an application is moved to OIDC or SAML for user login, but the rest of the identity model remains local, rigid, or poorly governed. It creates partial progress but often leaves the hardest access problems unresolved.
The Ariovis perspective
Federation is an architecture choice, not a product checkbox. Ariovis assesses protocols, trust relationships, application constraints and migration paths before defining the target.
