Automated Provisioning is a provisioning model in which identity creation, update, access assignment, or account lifecycle actions are executed automatically based on rules, workflows, policies, or events coming from authoritative systems. Automation can include new hire onboarding, department-based access assignment, account updates on transfer, and immediate revocation upon termination. It may rely on connectors, APIs, message-driven architectures, or workflow engines. Properly designed automation improves speed and consistency, but it also requires strong controls around data quality, exception handling, approvals, observability, rollback, and audit logs.
