Federation

Authentication Request

An Authentication Request is the message by which a service provider asks an identity provider to authenticate a user.

Definition

An Authentication Request is the federated protocol message used to initiate a login transaction by redirecting or referring the user to an identity provider. It expresses the service provider's request for authentication and may carry expectations about binding, requested authentication context, or return endpoint.

The Ariovis perspective

Federation is an architecture choice, not a product checkbox. Ariovis assesses protocols, trust relationships, application constraints and migration paths before defining the target.
