Birthright Access refers to the baseline set of access rights automatically granted to an identity because of its inherent organizational position, such as being an employee, contractor, student, partner, or member of a specific business unit. These rights are typically provisioned without individual request because they are considered necessary for basic participation in the environment, such as email, collaboration tools, directory presence, or standard portals. In well-governed IAM models, birthright access should be clearly defined, minimal, justified, and periodically reviewed, since overly broad birthright packages can become a hidden source of excessive access.
