Delegation
Delegation is the controlled transfer of a governance or approval responsibility from one actor to another.
Definition
Delegation is a governance mechanism that allows an individual, such as a manager or application owner, to temporarily or permanently transfer a defined decision-making responsibility to another authorized person. In IAM, delegation commonly applies to approvals, certifications, team management, or access administration, and should be bounded by scope, duration, and auditability.
Why it matters
Delegation ensures governance continuity when primary decision-makers are unavailable.
The Ariovis perspective
Delegation should move decisions closer to the people who understand the resource without diluting accountability. Owners, backup owners and escalation paths must remain explicit.
