Identity governance

Identity Correlation

Identity Correlation is the process of linking a single governed identity to its related accounts, access rights, and technical footprints across systems.

Definition

Identity Correlation is the logic by which an IAM platform associates multiple digital artifacts, such as application accounts, privileged accounts, service identities, and cloud representations, to the correct governing identity. Its purpose is to create a reliable and reviewable identity graph so that certification, risk evaluation, and lifecycle controls apply to the right person or owner.

Why it matters

Without reliable identity correlation, governance controls cannot accurately represent who has access to what.

The Ariovis perspective

Reliable lifecycle and access decisions depend on trusted identifiers, clearly owned sources and controlled data quality. Automation should not accelerate inconsistent data.

Common pitfalls

  • A common pitfall is relying on unstable identifiers for correlation, leading to misattribution of access.

These concepts matter most inside a real project.
