Federation
NameID
NameID is the identifier element used in SAML to represent the subject known by the federation exchange.
Definition
NameID is the subject identifier element carried inside a SAML assertion. It is used to identify the authenticated user in a format agreed between the identity provider and the service provider, and may be stable, persistent, or context-specific depending on federation design.
The Ariovis perspective
Federation is an architecture choice, not a product checkbox. Ariovis assesses protocols, trust relationships, application constraints and migration paths before defining the target.
