Identity governance

Role Mining

Role Mining is the analysis of existing access patterns in order to discover or refine reusable role structures.

Definition

Role Mining is the process of analyzing current account rights, permissions, team structures, and identity data to identify recurring patterns that can be transformed into governed roles. It is often used during IAM transformation to move from scattered access assignment to structured RBAC or hybrid models.

The Ariovis perspective

Roles are useful when they reflect stable business responsibilities and remain governable. Ariovis avoids forcing every exception into the role model and complements roles with controlled requests or contextual authorization.

These concepts matter most inside a real project.
