IAM Delivery
IAM delivery is the ability to turn an identity and access design into a service that is genuinely usable in production.
- Synonym
- IAM implementation
Definition
IAM delivery covers everything that separates an approved architecture from a service the business actually uses: detailed design, configuration, any bespoke development, integration, application onboarding, testing, data and entitlement migration, documentation, deployment, go-live, stabilisation and handover to run. It sits between strategy, which defines the target and the trajectory, and operations, which keep the service alive over time. Delivery is judged on what genuinely works in production for identified populations, not on the volume of deliverables produced.
Why it matters
An IAM programme only reduces risk once the design becomes a service that people actually use.
The Ariovis perspective
A PowerPoint architecture secures nobody: value appears when the design becomes a service the business really uses. The opposite is equally true: shipping fast with no architecture creates debt that is repaid for years. Good IAM delivery protects architectural intent while accepting the constraints of the field.

Common pitfalls
- A common mistake is treating go-live as the end of delivery, leaving stabilisation and handover to the run team without preparation.
