Federation
SP-Initiated Flow
An SP-Initiated Flow is a federation flow where the login starts from the target application or service provider.
Definition
An SP-Initiated Flow is a SAML federation sequence in which the user first tries to access the service provider, which then redirects the user to the identity provider for authentication. After login, the user is returned to the service provider with the federation response needed to establish the session.
The Ariovis perspective
Federation is an architecture choice, not a product checkbox. Ariovis assesses protocols, trust relationships, application constraints and migration paths before defining the target.
